The following pages show photographs from an article that was published in German magazine STERN at some time in the 70s, on a current trend of vacationing ‘like gypsies’. My grandmother kept some pages of this article for decades as my parents are seen in some of the pictures.
Both passed away over 10 years ago. As time goes by I realise that my actual memory of them, and the time we spent together, fades rapidly. Instead memorabilia like this article – even if they predate my birth by many years – begin to shape and replace my ideas of them. I wonder why.
Maybe this era truly defined them as human beings and as I later got to know them as my parents. Or that is just the way I want to remember them.
