With On Synchronicity, Klasse John Morgan at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf has created a collection of narratives, visual storytelling, essays and poetry. The contributions are based on the authors’ personal experiences with synchronicity and a place or object associated with those encounters.
“Synchronicity” refers to the simultaneity of a certain internal state with an external event, in which both appear in full accordance with each other. The significance of such phenomena can range from getting a phone call from someone, at the precise moment you thought of them, to dreaming of a life-changing event that becomes real, through to deeply impactful symbolic or spiritual experiences. This publication intends to actively open the space for multiple perspectives on synchronicity. With that in mind, the working hypothesis during production was to define synchronicities in the broadest sense as events in which the boundaries between the internal and external world(s) temporarily blur or dissolve. Among the diverse collection of contributions, some substantial connections as well as intended and unintended cross-references can be found. The thematic arrangement of the book follows these connections in subject areas ranging from autobiography, dream imagery and imagination, to entanglement and magical consciousness.
The book launch starts at 6 pm with readings by Fabio Sacher, Jessica Tille, Thea Mantwill and Camilla Angolini. We're gathering afterwards at the Kunstverein bar, please join us!
